This was my third time dining there and first in the several months. Our first 2 times (5 stars), last weekend 2 stars at best.First, when we walked in the hostess told us that our table was on the other side of the bar and we could go ahead and walk over and sit down. Even at Applebee's, the hostess will seat you. Second, on a Saturday night at 7 pm and not real busy, they were out of several items on an already limited menu. I think 4 in total, including a dessert item, and the waiter had to come back to our table to keep telling us they were out of something. After we ate dinner, they were going to comp us for a few desserts for the menu issues. Then 3 of us has to wait almost 30 mins for our desserts because the chef had to make the cookies for the ice cream sandwiches they had on the menu. This place use to be great and still has a chance to earn back the two stars, but I will only give it one more chance.
Okay experience - solid service, good appetizer, okay entree, great drinks selection.
Excellent food and service and a lovely vibe.
Great locally sourced food with unique presentations. Decent service, nice ambiance. Loved the live guitar music. I will be back!
Ordered the steak appetizer - yummy, nice flavor. Good texture.
Got the house burger - very tasty - great meat.
Drinks at the bar were great.
At the door - the hostess wasn't very experienced, and it was a little confusing (there were no people inside the restaurant, but she said that all the tables were booked so we couldn't sit anywhere), but we ended up getting to the bar okay - where the bartender (who was very experienced) was able to get us some drinks. *Hostess tip - maybe try telling guests that they can have a table, but only till 6:00pm because there's a 6:30pm reservation - a decent amount of restaurants do this.
My guest got the pork collar - which was cooked well, just underflavored - and when we asked for more seasoning - we were offered the dumpling sauce - which was not exactly the best pairing. Weird.
Then the hostess came and offered us a table - which was nice.
Nice ambience, attentive staff. Pricy. My risotto was delicious but minuscule. Quantities of wine poured differed from one person to the next. Room smelled faintly like cleanser.
Overall - it was an okay experience. I'm still new to Iowa City - so I will probably try other places before coming back again.
