I've never had a particularly bad experience with them, and have mostly used them to go to and from Chicago.
I've only ever traveled with carry on bags. I travel light: My toothbrush, my laptop, my phone, my chargers, and three changes of clothing.
One of the worst bus stations ever seen in & around Chicago. Dirty, smells of urine and most people don't look very welcoming!!!!
Never trust these buses. I've been taking the bus for the past 3 years and I don't think I'd have the energy to write down all of my horrible experiences here so I'll just tell you about the two biggest incidents. Last year I had a bus that left at 1 am in the middle of January. It was obviously freezing cold out and the bus was over an hour late. The bus station was closed at this time, which meant myself and about 15 other people were waiting outside in freezing cold temperatures for over an hour. Thought I'd never take the bus again after that, however the fare is so cheap that I keep taking it. Recently I reserved my tickets online. My reserved tickets were then sold/didn't show up in the system, and so now I have no way of getting to Chicago in time for my flight. Officially the last straw and despite the low fares I just can't deal with the unreliability anymore. These people have screwed me over one too many times and I encourage everyone who ever wants to take the bus to just be aware, you're seriously gambling here. If you have sensitive travel plans this place is completely unreliable.
Station is run down and dirty. Only good thing, fare is cheap.
Arrive late to the station. Is very crowded. The transportation is clean and comfortable enough
I can't vouch for any other routes, except the one to Des Moines, which also went quite well.
