With the host of chic hotels at reasonable prices popping up in Iowa City and Coralville, this is a little slice of "quaint" that is definitely no longer needed.
It was way overpriced for the tacky decor and lack of space or privacy. Noise travels from room to room and the owner demands that there are no overnight guests, whether you stayed a week or the entire summer.
Convenient to everything and great for traveling scholars, business people, etc who have to spend extended time in IC. Once a week maid service for extended stays is a nice touch. Noise travels from room to room very easily (I always knew when my neighbors alarm, phone, tv, etc. ). Seems a bit pricey but if you've got to spend time in IC you could do worse.
Check out the HotelVetro (walk to the Univ.) or if you need longer-term accomm. try the Suburban Extended Stay in Coralville (they have kitchens, full baths, flatscreen tvs and mod decor).
My husband and I look forward to our annual five week stays at The Bostick House or The Jefferson House with trememndous anticipation each year. The suites are lovingly cared for and are a part of Iowa City's history. 20' foot tall ceilings, comfortable beds, antiques from the owners' collections and other, very comfortable furniture, this is absolutely a "home away from home" for anyone who stays. The Farmer's Market is located three blocks away as is a gourmet natural foods Co-Op (open till 11 PM). John's Deli right across the street is also very convenient. We love the historic neighborhood and take long walks through it as often as possible. The Bostick House is an absolute gem; the owners make each guest feel very special. My husband and I have not had a single negative experience while stying here these past several years and look forward to many more enjoyable stays in the future.
Historic place with home-like spaces. Very warm and cozy in the harsh winters.
